Claremont : Aid in Tree Planting Sought

Share

The city is enlisting the help of community groups and residents to plant 1,200 trees along parkways, starting next Saturday morning, to replace more than 1,000 trees lost to freezing weather last winter.

The first trees will be planted along Padua Avenue and Claremont Boulevard, between Foothill Boulevard and Base Line Road, after a 9 a.m. ceremony near Padua Avenue and Claremont Boulevard.

The initial plantings will be used as a training session for volunteers, who will lead planting programs along streets throughout the city on each Saturday in February.

David Roger, assistant director of community services, said that without volunteer labor the city could only have afforded to plant 450 trees.

The Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Claremont High School students and others have volunteered their services.

Other groups and residents interested in participating may call Roger or Dale Kuehnert at the city Community Services Department.
