CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : OROVILLE : Ex-Judge Accused of Polluting Streams

A former Butte County Superior Court judge was charged with 22 misdemeanor counts for allegedly damaging streams while building fish ponds on his ranch. Lucian Vandegrift was accused of violating state fish and game laws and failing to obtain permits before moving thousands of yards of dirt on his Meadowbrook ranch near Magalia. Vandegrift allegedly dug a trench on U.S. Forest Service land, obliterated parts of two streams and built an earthen dam that blocked spawning trout.
