Mattel Plans New Line of Toys: Expanding its efforts to link its toys with television, Mattel Toys said it will create and sell a new line under the brand name of Nickelodeon, the cable TV channel featuring only children’s shows. El Segundo-based Mattel said the toys, to be unveiled next month at the annual Toy Fair trade show in New York, will focus primarily on arts and crafts, design and materials for children to use in drawing, sculpting and other creative activities. Mattel said none of the toys would be directly based on existing Nickelodeon shows, but would be packaged under the network’s name and be advertised on the network.
