Montebello School Board Expected to Slash Funds

Share

Board members in the financially strapped Montebello Unified School District tonight are expected to slash close to $700,000 by depleting supply budgets and reducing services.

The state’s 12th-largest school district is resorting to additional funding cuts because lottery proceeds have been less than expected, and a lower-than-predicted school enrollment resulted in reduced state funding.

The district has already cut close to $27 million from its $100-million budget by reducing pay, increasing class size and laying off about 180 employees, most of them teachers. No further layoffs are planned, however.
