Countywide : Governor Appoints 2 to Judgeships

A Ventura County Municipal Court judge was appointed to Superior Court and a Ventura lawyer was appointed to Municipal Court by Gov. Pete Wilson, officials said Friday.

Charles W. Campbell Jr., 45, who has served on the Municipal Court bench since 1988 will replace Superior Court Judge Robert J. Soares, said James Lee, a spokesman for Wilson. Campbell also was a Ventura County deputy district attorney for about 10 years, Lee said.

Roland N. Purnell, 54, a research attorney for Superior Court since 1983 and also a Ventura County deputy district attorney for 10 years, will replace Municipal Judge Lee Cooper Jr., Lee said.

The salary for a Superior Court judge is $99,297 a year and for a Municipal Court judge is $90,680 a year, he said.
