Diamond Bar : Housing Plan Draws Protest

Share

About 250 people protested last week against a proposed 120-unit residential development on 160 hillside acres in northern Tonner Canyon.

At Tuesday’s council meeting, opponents of the project, requested by Diamond Bar developer Al Lapeter and Diamond Bar Associates, cited a city staff report concluding that it would cause a 25% to 28% increase in traffic at their community’s entrance, at Diamond Bar Boulevard and Shadow Canyon Drive.

Others noted that the city’s draft general plan allows only one unit per 2.5 acres in hillside residential areas, while the ratio of this development would be of 0.75 units per acre.

They also contended that it would be harmful to an ecologically sensitive area.

The council scheduled a second public hearing for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the South Coast Air Quality Management District Building, 21865 E. Copley Drive, Diamond Bar.
