Azusa : Job Center Site Picked

Share

The City Council last week selected a site for a temporary job center and instructed the city staff to pursue lease negotiations with the company that owns it.

Rejecting two other sites recommended by the staff, the council voted 4 to 1 Monday, with Councilman John R. Dangleis dissenting, in favor of a vacant lot at 1025 N. Todd Ave. between 8th and 10th streets.

If the staff secures an agreement with its owner, CalMat of Irwindale, the city will hire a part-time staff member for a six-month trial.

The center will occupy a trailer donated by the waste disposal firm BFI.

The rental price has yet to be determined. Should no agreement be reached with CalMat, the other sites will be reviewed again by the council.
