Surya Bonaly of France skated cautiously and beat a weak women’s figure skating field at Lausanne, Switzerland, to successfully defend her European title. Bonaly had five clean triple jumps, and earned marks of 5.5 to 5.7. She had achieved a quadruple jump in practice.
