Sally Mugabe, 60, wife of Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe and known as “amai” or mother of the nation. President Mugabe, who married his Ghanaian-born wife in 1961, was expected to cancel scheduled visits to the United States and Britain because of her funeral Saturday. Mrs. Mugabe, who met the president when he was teaching in Ghana in the 1950s, was often arrested by colonial police in what was previously called Southern Rhodesia for campaigning with her husband against white-minority rule.
