Strong Orders For Storage Technology: Storage Technology Inc. on Tuesday unveiled “Iceberg,” a state-of-the-art computer data storage device that the company said has attracted enormous customer interest. Iceberg is designed to give companies the ability to store a huge amount of data from mainframe computers in less space and to ensure against data loss in the event of a hard-disk crash. “We believe Iceberg represents the dawning of a new era in online (data) storage,” President R. R. Poppa said. More than 140 customers--from insurance and financial institutions to manufacturers--have committed to purchasing Iceberg, for a total of more than $150 million in sales, Poppa said.
