Mildred S. Terry; Catholic School Teacher

Mildred S. Terry, who taught at Holy Family Grade School in Glendale for 38 years, has died at her Glendale home. She was 80.

Mrs. Terry died Wednesday of heart failure, said her daughter, Elizabeth Terry, of Glendale.

Born in Tuxedo, N.Y., she earned a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University in New York before coming to California in 1949. She taught at Holy Family from 1950 to 1988. Following her retirement, she taught religious education classes at Holy Family Catholic Church until the time of her death.

Mrs. Terry was past president of the church’s Gold Age Club and a member of the Altar Club. She was also a member of Glendale Beautiful, the Glendale Rose Float Assn. and the Women’s Civic League of Glendale.

In addition to her daughter Elizabeth, Mrs. Terry is survived by her son, Wallace C. Terry, and daughter Cathy Terry, both of Glendale; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 220 E. Elk Ave., in Glendale. A graveside service is planned at 9 a.m. Saturday at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, 11160 Stranwood Ave., in Mission Hills.

Woods Glendale Mortuary is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Mrs. Terry’s name to the Cathy Chapter, in care of the City of Hope, 208 W. 8th St., Los Angeles 90014.
