Prosecutors have dropped charges against Winnie Mandela in connection with a spectacular sit-down protest led by the anti-apartheid activist, officials said Wednesday.

Mandela, wife of African National Congress President Nelson Mandela, and 300 supporters brought central Johannesburg to a standstill last May 22 by blocking a main street to demand the release of political prisoners. She had been charged with obstructing traffic and hindering police.
