VENTURA : College Won’t Mail Fall Semester Grades

Ventura College will not mail fall semester grades to students because of high postage costs, college officials said Thursday.

Students may pick up their grades from the Admissions and Records Office from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays.

Ventura College has not mailed grade cards to its 13,000 students since the fall of 1990, officials said. The annual cost of mailing the cards is about $10,000. Moorpark College and Oxnard College continue to mail grades to students.

John Woolley, vice president of student services for Ventura College, said each of the three colleges in the Ventura County Community College District develops its own budget. Ventura College officials decided to discontinue the mass mailing to devote more funds to instruction, he said.

The college is developing a pilot registration project for the spring of 1993 that would enable students to register for classes and retrieve their grades via telephone, Woolley said.
