United Launches Brazil Service: United Airlines said that despite a Brazilian judge’s ruling, it was to begin service as scheduled Friday night from Miami to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. The judge suspended permission for the UAL Corp. unit to fly to the cities in place of defunct Pan Am unless UAL honored Pan Am obligations to ticket holders, ex-employees and other creditors. “We will operate as planned,” a United spokeswoman said. She declined further comment.
