William R. Schindler; NASA Rocket Veteran
William R. Schindler, 64, a veteran of the nation’s space program who worked on the Vanguard and Delta missile rocket programs for the Navy and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration respectively. He became project manager of the Delta Launch Vehicle Program at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland in 1962, and for 14 years headed a team that launched more than 100 Delta rockets with a success rate of 94%. His team was the first to launch satellites for such outside agencies as Comsat Corp. and Japanese, British and Indonesian programs. He left NASA in 1976 and most recently had been with TRW in San Bernardino. In Loma Linda on Monday of cancer.
