INSURING JUSTICE: A second local case in the journal’s Top 30 didn’t draw court watchers, but the money was impressive. When James R. Waller Jr., founder of a Cypress engineering firm, Marmac, was sued by a minority stockholder, he tried to get his insurance carriers to pay the defense, but they refused. Waller won against the stockholder, plus a whopping $62 million against the insurance people. The amount has been reduced to $31 million, and the defense is appealing.
