NON-MONEY REWARD: Included in the National Law Journal’s 1991 Top 30 civil jury verdicts is the $32.1 million awarded to Janni Smith, above, president of an Irvine-based research and rehabilitation center. She won against former boyfriend Richard Minns, a Houston millionaire, asserting that he ordered the 1980 shooting that left her a paraplegic. Smith may never collect; Minns has skipped the country. . . . “But there are things more important than money,” Smith says, “like seeing some kind of justice done.”
