GOLF ROUNDUP : Player Shoots 7-Under 64, Leads by Four

Gary Player shot a seven-under-par 64 Saturday to take a four-stroke lead after two rounds of the Royal Caribbean senior tournament at Key Biscayne, Fla.

Player, the defending champion, had a 36-hole total of eight-under 134 going into today’s final round at the Links on Key Biscayne.

Tied for second at 138 were Chi Chi Rodriguez, who shot a 67, and Dick Hendrickson, who had a 68. Mike Hill, 1991’s player of the year, was at 139 after shooting a 67.

Player opened his round by sinking a chip from 35 feet for an eagle at the par-five first hole. He made three birdie putts on the back nine and barely missed five others.

Six players were tied at 140, including first-round co-leader Bruce Crampton, who shot 31-41--72.

Canadian Dawn Coe, hoping for her first victory on the LPGA Tour, held a three-way share of first place in a tournament at Lake Worth, Fla.

Coe, a non-winner in her nine-year career, shot a three-under-par 69 for a 54-hole total of seven-under 209. She is tied with recent Hall of Fame inductee Pat Bradley and Swedish rookie Helen Alfredsson, both of whom shot 72.

Coe began the third round at 140, three strokes back of Bradley and Beth Daniel. She parred the front nine before catching the leaders with consecutive birdie putts on 15 and 16.

Daniel, who shot 73, is tied with Becky Pearson (69) at 210. Deb Richard, Colleen Walker, and Rosie Jones are at 211.
