COUNTYWIDE : Drizzle Expected to Grow Into a Storm by Weekend

A light drizzle that fell Wednesday across Ventura County was expected to become a storm that could dump more than an inch of rain by the weekend, local meteorologists said.

“We’ll be moving into a rather wet cycle beginning Thursday, which will probably last for some time,” said Terry Schaeffer, a National Weather Service meteorologist based in Santa Paula.

The rain, which is expected to fall sporadically today and continue Friday, will be the result of two storm systems off Point Concepcion that are moving toward Ventura County, Schaeffer said.

“There could possibly be more to follow after that,” Schaeffer said. “Right now I still do not see an end to the wet spell.”

Ventura County engineer and hydrologist Dolores Taylor predicted that about 1 1/2 inches would fall in most places, with the possibility of more in the mountainous areas.

The storm could bring snow to areas above 6,500 feet, Taylor said.

The weekend outlook indicates considerable cloudiness, with more rain, possibly heavy, by Sunday, Schaeffer said.
