COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titan Women Lose to New Mexico State

Playing without starting guard Joey Ray and two reserves, who were suspended two games for breaking unspecified team rules, Cal State Fullerton lost to New Mexico State, 86-73, in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Thursday at Titan Gym.

Leading, 37-35, at halftime, the Aggies (9-10, 3-5 in conference) put the game away when center Meredith Sanders scored seven of her 19 points during an 11-2 run that opened the second half.

Claudette Jackson had 24 points for Fullerton (9-10, 4-6).

In another Big West Conference women’s basketball game:

Nevada Las Vegas 94, UC Irvine 44--The Anteaters (4-16, 0-11) sustained their most one-sided defeat of the season and ran their losing streak to 11 games, allowing the game’s first 15 points.

In a nonconference women’s basketball game:

Christ College Irvine 96, Cal Lutheran 49--Gitte Mejer scored 33 points, breaking the school-record of 32 set by Michelle Ferris in the 1988-89 season, for the visiting Eagles (20-3).

In the National Indoor Intercollegiate Tennis Championships:

Scott eliminated--Danielle Scott, a senior at Arizona and a Corona del Mar High graduate, lost to Eveline Hamers of Kansas, 6-4, 6-4, in a first-round match in Minneapolis.
