THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE

Share

The juxtaposition in the Jan. 5 issue of Sandy Banks’ “Grim Days at Grant High” and Paul Richter’s article on Secretary of Education Lamar Alexander (“The Alexander Technique”) was a powerful but distressing illustration of the gulf between our broken public school system and the people responsible for fixing it. I could find nothing in Alexander’s dream that seemed remotely relevant to the reality of Grant High.

The only point of contact between schools like Grant High and the secretary of education is one’s poverty of means and the other’s poverty of imagination.
