No Shortage of Views on Myers and the Homeless
- Share via
I side with Robert M. Myers, Santa Monica city attorney, in his opposition to prosecuting the homeless. However Herculean the efforts, the attempt to criminalize homelessness is doomed to fail, both morally and constitutionally. Prosecuting the homeless only serves to trivialize the meaning of a crime and is a grotesque misuse of scarce public resources.
Only from steadfast opposition to the pervasive public hysteria on this homeless issue may spring a concern and a humanity for the less fortunate among us. To sweep these people up and away in police vans, and incarcerate them in jail cells, seems vastly more suited for stray dogs than lost people.
