Bomber Harris

German mayors asking for cancellation of the London memorial to the World War II British bomber chief, Sir Arthur (Bomber) Harris (editorial, “The Right Way to Remember,” Jan. 29)? What chutzpah!

When the Germans atone for the civilian victims of their bombers in Warsaw, Rotterdam, Coventry and London, then--and only then--will they have earned the moral ticket of admission to the debate on such matters. In the meantime, go ahead and put up the old boy’s statue, blokes. There are still some of us around who remember what it was like then, and who might like to put a wreath on it.
