Concerns About Mammography

Share

Two methods of early detection mentioned in the column are either not effective or not yet widely available. Screening by transillumination with ultra-red light has been touted for years but discarded because it doesn’t show cancers until they are the size of golf balls, often too late. Magnetic resonance imaging is an exciting hope for the future, but it is neither proven nor widely available. For the present, mammography is the only game in town. ARTHUR D. SILK MD
