Women’s Alpine racing will begin today at Meribel, where the downhill portion of the combined is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. The two-run slalom will wind up the event Thursday.

Katja Seizinger of Germany had the fastest time Tuesday in the third training run for both the combined downhill and the regular downhill, which is set for Saturday on a sightly longer course. She was timed in 1:28.84 down the roughly 1 1/3-mile-long course.

Svetlana Gladishiva of the Unified Team was second, 0.59 seconds slower.

The top American was Krista Schmidinger of Lee, Mass., who was third in 1:29.53. Hilary Lindh of Juneau, Alaska, continued her string of rapid training times with a 1:29.70, the day’s fifth-fastest descent.

Wendy Fisher of Incline Village, Nev., took a spectacular spill on her run. She suffered a broken left thumb, a knee strain and a slight concussion, according to U.S. Ski Team doctors, who said she will not race today but could be ready by Saturday.
