UC Irvine anthropology professor Robert Garfias is serving a two-year stint at the University of Costa Rica in San Juan as director of the University of California Education Abroad Program. An active member of the National Council on the Arts, which advises the National Endowment for the Arts, Garfias assumed the appointed Costa Rica post in December.
