Thanks to Reggie Waller; Now Get Right to Work

I want to salute Reggie Waller for his reluctance to not make skin color the major issue in his being hired by the Padres and to The Times’ Bob Nightengale for focusing on Reggie’s talent, enthusiasm and hard work ethic that makes him the best man for the job (who just happens to be black). That’s not to say that the powers that be in baseball’s hierarchy shouldn’t be reminded that there are many more Reggie Wallers that should get the opportunity to break into what has been unfortunately a very closed club. Like it or not, the spotlight will be on you initially. Your success will speak louder than words leading the way for others.
