SIMI VALLEY : Applications Sought for Block Grants

Share

The city of Simi Valley is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations to receive financial aid under its annual Community Block Grant Program, officials said.

A total of $242,000 in federal grant money is available to eligible organizations and groups that provide social services for low- and moderate-income residents of the city, said Brian Gabler, assistant to the city manager.

In previous years, the city has allocated money for the Simi Valley Family YMCA, the Simi Valley Free Clinic, the Rape and Sexual Abuse Center of Ventura County, the Adult Literacy Program of Ventura County and various historic preservation projects.

Every year the city receives grant money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The money is intended primarily to benefit low- and moderate-income people or meet a community development need of particular urgency, Gabler said.

City staff has developed guidelines to assist organizations in preparing applications for grant money. Individuals and organizations that would like to submit a funding request should contact the city manager’s office. Completed applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday, March 6.

Gabler said the City Council will probably begin holding public hearings on allocation of the grant money beginning in April.
