Sophomore point guard Marsalis Basey, whose sparkling play helped West Virginia to a 10-game win streak, has been reinstated after a one-game suspension.

Neither Basey nor coach Gale Catlett would say why the 5-foot-8 playmaker was suspended. Basey’s father said it was because Basey overslept and missed a class.

“He has complied with the team rules he broke and is back in good standing with the team,” Catlett said. “I hope this is now behind him and doesn’t interfere with the rest of his season or his career.”

Catlett said Basey will make the trip when the Mountaineers play at Rhode Island today.

Basey, who’s averaging seven points, five assists and two rebounds per game, did not make the trip to Olean, N.Y., for the Mountaineers’ 78-70 win Saturday over St. Bonaventure.

Basey last played Wednesday in West Virginia’s 98-95 home loss to Rutgers. In that game, his turnover in the backcourt led to the Scarlet Knights go-ahead basket.

West Virginia (17-6) leads the Atlantic 10 Conference at 9-2.
