Police are searching for a man who pulled a 19-year-old student off a sidewalk as she walked home early Monday morning and jabbed her with a sharp object.

The woman had been walking on West Ocean Front at 1:35 a.m. when a dark mini-pickup with its lights off moved alongside her near 28th Street, then pulled ahead and disappeared, Sgt. Andy Gonis said.

The driver apparently parked his truck, walked toward the student as she approached 32nd Street, and confronted her. He was described as in his 30s, between 5 feet, 4 inches and 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, and wearing a white T-shirt with a winged logo.

“At that point he just grabs her by the shirt and shouts a couple of profanities,” Gonis said.

The suspect dragged her for half a block onto a side street and jabbed her with some kind of weapon, possibly a screwdriver, Gonis added. He ran away when she started screaming.

The student did not require medical treatment.
