Diamond Bar : Impounded-Car Fees Raised

Share

Owners of cars impounded for unlawful parking, expired registration or outstanding parking tickets must pay an additional $60 fee, the City Council decided last week.

The fee, added to $65 tow fees plus about $12 a day impoundment, is to cover processing costs by the Sheriff’s Department, which contracts with Diamond Bar for police services. Previously, the city had paid the processing costs.

Owners of stolen cars that were recovered or cars disabled by traffic accidents will not have to pay the extra $60, city officials said.

Since about 16 vehicles are impounded each month for illegal reasons, the city expects to make about $11,520 a year from the new fine.

The money will go toward the $3.9 million annually the city pays for Sheriff’s Department services.
