Nation IN BRIEF : ALABAMA : Mail Bomber Faces New Murder Charge
A man already convicted in federal court of mailing a bomb that killed a federal judge pleaded innocent to a state murder charge that could result in a death sentence. Walter Leroy Moody Jr., of Rex, Ga., entered the plea during his arraignment in Birmingham, Ala., on a capital murder charge in the death of U.S. Circuit Judge Robert S. Vance. Moody, 56, has been sentenced to seven life terms plus 400 years for his conviction on federal charges in Vance’s death and the mail-bomb killing of a Savannah, Ga., civil rights lawyer.
