NATIONAL RACE ROUNDUP : Passagere Du Soir Is Winner at Gulfstream Park
Favored Passagere Du Soir came from behind to win the $158,000 Budweiser Breeders’ Cup Handicap by a half-length at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Fla., on Saturday.
Colchis Island finished second, a neck in front of Crystal Moment, who finished ahead of Skate On Thin Ice.
Ridden by Jerry Bailey, Passagere Du Soir ran 1 3/8 miles in 2:15 3/5, and paid $4.80, $3.20 and $2.40. Colchis Island paid $8.40 and $4.40. Crystal Moment returned $3.00.
Owned by Paul De Moussac, Passagere Du Soir made her first start in the United States on Oct. 21 at Belmont, winning the Tidal Handicap. She finished second in the Laurel Turf Cup and was third in the Hialeah Turf Cup Jan. 5, her last start before Saturday’s victory.
Spy Leader Lady led all the way in scoring a 3 3/4-length victory in Aqueduct’s $112,600 Next Move Breeders’ Cup Handicap.
Haunting was second, 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Grecian Pass in the Grade III race for fillies and mares 3 years old and older.
The winner covered the 1 3/16 miles in 2:00 and returned $18.40, $6.60 and $2.80. Haunting paid $4.20 and $2.60. Grecian Pass returned $2.80.
