Now this may seem trivial to some, but I was appalled and insulted when I looked at my state income tax refund check. I was married in 1991 and this was my first “married filing joint return (even if only one had income).” My husband was a student and I was the sole income. I filled out the form, putting my name and Social Security number first. The W-2 form was mine. Why, then, would my husband’s Social Security number be used as the identification number on the check? Why is his name listed first when that’s not how I wrote it? The office of the state Controller Gray Davis has acted with discrimination. Is it a state policy to always list the male primarily? If so, this needs to be re-evaluated and changed immediately!
