The pregnant 14-year-old Irish girl at the center of an abortion debate arrived Tuesday in Britain for fetal tests, an Irish government spokesman said.

The genetic tests could identify the man she says raped her, the spokesman added.

The girl, who has not been identified, was accompanied by family members. She says she was raped in December by a friend’s father after more than a year of sexual abuse. The man has been questioned but not charged by police.

Last week, the Supreme Court ruled the teen-ager could travel to Britain for an abortion, overturning a lower court order that prevented her from doing so.

The case drew international media attention and reopened the divisive abortion debate in Ireland, where abortion is prohibited by law except to save the mother’s life.
