World IN BRIEF : GERMANY : Legislator Linked to Death of 6 Jews Quits

An eastern German state legislator who admitted helping kill six Ukrainian Jews while a soldier during World War II has resigned. It was the first resignation since German unification to result from Nazi-era ties. Gustav Just, 71, had sought to remain in the legislature in exchange for giving up a committee chairmanship. But support weakened in his own Social Democratic Party as Jewish leaders and Christian Democrats pressed for his resignation.
