School Choice Initiative

Share

The authors suggest that giving money for students to attend private schools will somehow increase the quality of education overall. I question this premise considering that there is already a lack of funds to support the existing public schools. How is sharing the shrinking budget with private schools going to create excellence in education?

The consequences of this initiative are that public schools’ share of the budget will decrease, hurting poor people who cannot afford private schools now. Nor will they be able to afford it with a token “coupon” that the initiative proposes. I don’t think my tax money should go to some Palos Verdes student who wants to attend a $17,000-a-year prep school.
