Indiana had its worst shooting night of the season, but Coach Bob Knight found one bright spot.

“We didn’t have to have a miraculous finish to win the game,” he said.

The No. 4 Hoosiers, who made 35% of their shots, made 26 of 29 free throws in a 66-41 Big Ten Conference victory over Wisconsin Thursday night at Bloomington, Ind.

The victory tied Indiana (23-5) with Ohio State for first place in the Big Ten at 14-3. Ohio State ends the regular season at Minnesota on Saturday. Indiana plays Purdue on Sunday.

“Our shooting remains a tremendous puzzle for us,” Knight said. “(Calbert) Cheaney is four for 23 (in the last two games). We can’t beat anybody with that.”

It was good enough against Wisconsin (13-17, 4-13), which made only 15 of 51 shots in losing for the 25th consecutive time to Indiana. Badger Coach Steve Yoder was 0-20 against the Hoosiers in his 10-year career. He announced his resignation 2 1/2 weeks ago, effective at the end of the season.

“You have to play almost perfect to win here,” Yoder said. “We’re not a great catch-up team on the road. Most teams aren’t, especially without a lot of quickness, which we don’t have.”

Matt Nover led the Hoosiers with 16 points. Senior Eric Anderson scored 15 points in his final game at Assembly Hall.

Tracy Webster led the Badgers with 14 points and broke the sophomore scoring record of 511 points set by Cory Blackwell in 1983.
