Sober Journalism

Regarding “Silence of the Demons,” David Gritten’s profile of Anthony Hopkins (March 1):

Gritten writes: “Finally, (Hopkins) joined a support group for alcoholics after driving from Los Angeles to Phoenix one night with no memory of having made the journey.”

Enough and plenty said. London-based Gritten deserves praise for his wise, respectful handling of celebrity alcoholism. Would that American-based journalists take note, learn and choose salubrious commentary over salacious exploitation in writing of the problems of those with a high public profile.
