Casting Calls: Mel Gibson will star as the smooth-talking fictional Western TV hero Bret Maverick in a movie that his production company is developing for Warner Bros. release. James Garner, who played Maverick on ABC from 1957-62, will have a supporting part. . . . Joe Mantegna and Anne Archer will join Madonna and Willem Dafoe in MGM’s upcoming thriller “Body of Evidence.” The film, set to begin shooting April 6, stars the material girl as an accused murderer.
