Freedom of Choice

Share

Letter-writer Neil Compton (“The Issue is Murder,” March 5) presented his religious beliefs as if they are universal truths when he declares that children and the unborn are equally human. In my religion, the soul does not enter the body until the first breath of air--the “breath of life.” Before then, the unborn has no soul and is merely a potential human, not an actual human. Ending a soulless life is not murder.

Those who would legislate against abortion are trying to enact their own religious beliefs into law. They would have the police enforce what they cannot obtain from the pulpit. Effectively, they would deny religious freedom to those with differing beliefs about the start of humanity.
