Strike Up the Band: Accompanied by a live orchestra, King Vidor’s 1925 silent film blockbuster, “The Big Parade,” will be shown April 24 at UCLA’s Royce Hall as a benefit for the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Film composer-conductor Carl Davis, who was recently involved with Paul McCartney’s “Liverpool Oratorio,” will come from London to conduct his original score for the film. “The Big Parade,” a World War I story starring John Gilbert, is the orchestra’s third benefit presentation of a major silent film with a live orchestra. “New Babylon” was shown in 1990, “City Lights” in 1991.
