Thousands of Romanian nationalists rallied in Bucharest for the unification of Romania and Moldova, joined by a group of ethnic Romanians from the former Soviet republic who arrived after an 18-day march.

The marchers’ arrival coincided with the 74th anniversary of a treaty that unified Romania and Moldova, formerly known as Bessarabia.

“We are Romanians first and Moldovans second,” said Moldovan marcher Vlad Vaculin.

The march ended with a demonstration for reunification by about 5,000 people in central University Square.
