Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Shuttle Crew Studies Shooting Stars, Halo

Atlantis’ crew of six men and one woman measured light from shooting stars and Earth’s gleaming halo, midway through the first shuttle mission devoted to environmental research. The astronauts, who have been frugal with energy, hope to return to Earth on Thursday instead of Wednesday. NASA officials at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida will decide today whether to extend the flight.
