From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A prostitute already facing the electric chair for killing a businessman pleaded no contest to murdering three other motorists. Aileen Wuornos, 35, entered the plea to three counts of first-degree murder after Circuit Judge Thomas E. Sawaya, in Ocala, Fla., approved her request to change attorneys. The judge didn’t immediately set a date for sentencing. She could face life in prison or the death penalty. Wuornos told investigators she killed in self defense seven men who picked her up along Florida highways. Wuornos said she “wants to get right with God” and didn’t want to go through another trial. “God has forgiven me for all the killings,” she read in court from a prepared statement. She also asked to be executed as soon as possible. Charges were pending in a fifth murder. She wasn’t charged in the other two cases.
