LAKE VIEW TERRACE : $700,000 Earmarked for Work on Center

Share

At the direction of Councilman Ernani Bernardi, the Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday approved spending $700,000 from a goodwill fund to upgrade the Lake View Terrace Recreation Center.

The expenditure approved Wednesday was not controversial.

But that has not been the case with Bernardi’s plan to spend another $700,000 from the same fund on an anti-gang program in Pacoima.

Homeowner activists in Lake View Terrace say the second $700,000 should be spent in their community, not Pacoima, and have loudly denounced Bernardi.

The money is from the Lopez Canyon Community Amenities Trust Fund, set up in 1991 to support public improvements in communities affected by expansion of the city-owned Lopez Canyon garbage dump above Lake View Terrace.

The money approved for expenditure Wednesday will fund modernization of the existing recreation center and construction of a new public meeting room.
