FULLERTON : Skinhead Leader Sentenced to Prison
A leader of a group of skinhead youths who attacked and beat a Chinese-American teen-ager in a Fullerton park was sentenced Friday to three years in state prison.
David Richmond, 18, of Anaheim was the last of nine white supremacist gang members to be sentenced in connection with the July 7, 1991, unprovoked attack. All pleaded guilty to a variety of charges. There is an outstanding warrant for a 10th youth, a 17-year-old juvenile from Whittier.
The group set upon the victim in Gilman Martin Park, shouting racial epithets and knocking the honor student unconscious. Two of the victim’s friends escaped with minor bruises.
Superior Court Judge Ronald Eugene Owen ruled that Richmond, who has been in custody since his July, 1991, arrest, was not eligible for commitment or housing at the California Youth Authority. With credit for time served, Richmond could be released within 18 months.
Richmond pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of felony hate crime and two counts of robbery for an unrelated incident in Huntington Beach.
“We’re happy with the result,” said Deputy Dist. Atty. Gary Paer, who prosecuted the cases.
