AFRICA AND AIDS

Share

Though I felt deep concern and sorrow over the AIDS in Africa piece, I did not shed a tear until I came to the Style pages. People were pictured dancing and laughing, wearing ignorant smiles of bliss, exemplifying that, as Americans, we do care--but not too much. We feel sadness over the dying mother and child on the cover, yet still are concerned about which shade of lipstick is best when doing the mambo. Perhaps there is something to be feared more than AIDS--our lukewarm hearts.
