CAMARILLO : New Site Chosen for Preschool Program

Share

The Pleasant Valley School District’s preschool program for children who are behind their peers in developing language and motor skills will be housed in a bungalow at Los Nogales School next year.

Trustees on Thursday unanimously approved locating the portable classroom where they had planned to put a new nature center. District staff recommended the site, saying it would cost twice as much to put the bungalow on either of two alternative sites. The nature center will be next to the bungalow.

The cost to install the new classroom, which will have no toilets or running water, has been estimated at $5,000. The money will come out of a $97,907 grant that funds the district’s only preschool program. Students will use bathrooms in an adjacent kindergarten classroom.

Because of the program’s growing enrollment, school officials this year moved the program out of a shared Camarillo Heights School classroom, its home of five years. For the next few months, the program will be housed in temporary quarters at Los Nogales.

The preschool, which began with 11 students and an $11,000 grant in 1987, has grown fivefold. Sixty students are expected to have enrolled by September and 70 by June, 1993.
