Becker Wins Again, Leads Europe Class

Courtenay Becker of Rye, N.Y., won for the second consecutive day Monday to take a strong lead in the U.S. Olympic sailing trials for the new women’s Europe class at Newport Beach.

Becker, top-ranked in the class in the United States, is 3-1-1 with 5.7 points, followed by Pam Pennell of Miami at 16.7.

In the other Olympic singlehanded dinghy class, six sailors were in the running for the only berth after three of the 10 races, with David Himmel of Miami in the lead.

Brian Ledbetter of San Diego, the 1988 Olympic representative, was in third place with finishes of 2-4-4.
